About Sailing with Excelsior

Excelsior sails, therefore she lives, preserved for all to share preserved through use!

Excelsior is recognised by the National Maritime Museum in the top fifty most important vessels in our maritime heritage.

Welcome to The Excelsior Trust, come sailing with us
A unique experience awaits you sailing aboard this historic old ship. Be it for day, or a week to the Tall Ships Race, or perhaps helping other volunteers keep her in good condition by offering skilled, or unskilled maintenance work in winter, or perhaps crewing her in the summer. Its all part of keeping Britain's maritime heritage on the go.

The Excelsior Trust which is based on the East Coast, both maintains and keeps the ship at sea. She is the last Lowestoft trawler still sailing. Groups of all ages and backgrounds, some young people, including the disadvantaged, from schools and causes, find her a challenge - often inspiring them into a new way of life.

You can sail aboard her, be it for a day out of Lowestoft or the River Orwell near Ipswich, or for longer voyages, including on the famous Tall Ships Race itself.

We also run The Excelsior Shipyard. We offer competitive slipping facilities for commercial vessel owners, supported by Marine Engineering specialists, Allerton Engineering. We also welcome historic vessels. Call Roger Goulder on 01502 585302 for slip availability and prices. For Engineering enquiries, call Richard Allerton on 01502 537870 Mobile 07786 000311

You can join our Trust and attend social events, wear our ship's apparel with pride and know you are helping keep up a piece of English history.

Chairman Geoffrey Copeman says: 'Keeping Excelsior at sea, as part of this region's maritime heritage, is no mean feat. We're always looking for enthusiasts to work with us and in particular join the trust as a friend or governor. Please check our activities on this site and fill up your membership application now.'
