About Self Catering Accommodation at Colston Hall
Our four self-catering holiday homes are ideal for couples, groups and families who want a comfortable, well-appointed holiday cottage with the flexibility of self-catering.
Our self-catering accommodation is located in the former granary and milling shed of our sixteenth-century farmhouse, now sympathetically converted into beautiful holiday homes that combine traditional character and modern convenience.
Relax by the ponds in our B&B rooms, you’ll find find oak beams and co-ordinated fabrics in traditional style and wonderful views over our parkland and lakes.
There are plenty of pubs and restaurants within easy walking or driving distance – we’ll be happy to make a booking for your first night.
Ample off-street parking is available for all self-catering guests. We can also arrange taxi transfers to and from local rail stations, or to local events such as weddings and parties.
All cottages are fully equipped with:
Kitchens – hob / extractor / oven / microwave / fridge / freezer / dishwasher / washing machine / tumble drier / comprehensive set of utensils, crockery, pots & pans
Lounge – tv / radio / cd / dvd
Bedrooms – hairdryers / radio alarms
Bathrooms – baths & showers
Outside – Car parking / lock-up for bikes etc / Patio seating & BBQ
Broadband – Just ask for the code, available anywhere on site
We have two private fishing lakes available for B&B and cottage guests to fish, totaling 1.5 acres (0.6ha) of water, containing mirror and common carp, bream, roach, rudd, tench, golden orf and ghost koi.
Colston Hall is an ideal base for cycling trips through the local countryside. Just a few miles’ gentle pedalling will take you to pretty villages, quiet market towns and the beautiful Suffolk coast – with plenty of pubs and tea rooms to stop at along the way.
All within easy cycling distance are the village of Debenham with its overhanging houses and antique shops, the imposing castle and the delightful market town of Framlingham, the historic tide mill at Woodbridge on the banks of the River Deben and Snape with its craft shops and art gallery in the home of the Aldeburgh Festival.
Colston Hall is fortunate to be situated in a quiet, rural location with a wide variety of wildlife right here on our doorstep. A gentle stroll through the garden, along the waymarked paths, and around the fishing lakes will bring you into contact with a wealth of birds and animals.
Kingfishers perched on branches overhanging the lakes, woodpeckers feeding their fledglings, our resident robin perched on its favourite fence post, and song birds outside the Breakfast Room window are regular sights, together with ducks, moorhens, pigeons, rooks and even the occasional heron.
We are very enthusiastic to be taking part in the Suffolk Barn Owl Project, a joint project between Suffolk Wildlife Trust and Suffolk Ornithologists Group. We have two Barn Owl boxes and one little Owl box, and over recent years have seen successfully reared Barn Owl chicks. The chicks are ringed to study dispersal, longevity, and causes of mortality in the local population which has been under threat since the 1930’s largely due to loss of habitat and nest sites.
We are about 20 minutes in the car from RSPB Minsmere and the Suffolk Coast which provide a huge number of wildlife and bird watching opportunities, including bitterns, avocets, shearwaters, cormorants, egrets, terns and grebes.
