About Suffolk Punch Trust
This visitor attraction will allow the general public access to the horses, the wildlife and environment in a especially lovely area rangeing from heath land to sea marsh and the shore. Nearly 200 acres will be switched from agriculture to a public park for the enjoyment of generations to come.
The Colony Stud is now open for visitors until Monday, 4th November. Dogs on leads welcome.
The Suffolk Punch Trust is dedicated to the preservation of Suffolk’s unique history. It operates The Hollesley Bay Colony Stud, the world’s oldest stud farm breeding the extremely rare Suffolk Horse. The Trust safeguards the future of this unique animal, which shaped the landscape of Suffolk and played a crucial role in the development of farming throughout the British colonies.
The Colony Stud is a great day out for all ages. Come and see our horses and yearlings, rare Large Black Pigs, Red Poll Cattle and Suffolk Sheep.
There is also a large indoor display of wagons, drays and parade vehicles, a Heritage Museum, films of farming with Suffolk horses are continuously showing, as well as our activity play area, gift shop and the Suffolk Punch Café which provides light lunches and fantastic cream teas.
The new Heritage Garden is stocked with horticultural varieties of plants and shrubs developed in Suffolk .
Throughout the year we have working demonstrations, special events and themed activity days where you can experience, first hand, more of our countryside’s heritage and watch the Suffolk horses in work and our young horses in training.
